Alive Again Follow-Up

As a short follow-up to my post on Matt Maher’s latest single…his cd is now available for pre-order!!! You can buy it off of the same website as where you can listen to his single. To make it easier for you look HERE. I think I’ll have to order 10 copies so I can just hand them out to people! Matt’s music is too good for the entire world to be deprived of it. ;).

Safely Home

Here is a very touching prayer that I found on one of my holy cards last night. It is very encouraging in the sight of loss.

Safely Home
I am home in heaven, dear ones;
Oh so happy and so bright!
there is perfect joy and beauty

All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the vally of the shade?
Oh, but Jesus’ love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.

And He came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus’ arm to lean on
Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still;
Try to look beyond earth’s shadows,
Pray to trust our Father’s will.

there is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remains,
You shall rest in Jesus’ land

When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting
Oh, the joy to see you come!

Apologies

I apologize for the lack of posts this week; coming home from a three-day vacation is always hard to settle down from. I promise to post something soon!

My Daily Prayer

Dear God, as I begin this day
Let me turn my thoughts to You ,
And ask Your help in guiding me
In everything I say and do.

Give me the patience that I need
To keep my peace of mind,
And with life’s cares, I hope, Dear God,
Some happiness to find.

Let me live but for today,
Not worrying what’s ahead,
For I have trust that You will see
I get my “Daily Bread”.

Give me the courage to face life’s trials
And not from troubles run,
Let me keep this thought in mind,
“Thy Will”,  not “Mine”, be done.

And if some wish I do not get
Though I have prayed to Thee,
Help me to believe and understand
You know what’s best for me.

I’ve failed You many times, I know,
But when tonight I rest,
I hope that I can kneel and say,
“Dear God, I’ve tried my best”.

Such a simple prayer. The third and fourth stanzas hold the most significance for me;  “Thy Will not Mine be done” and “You know what’s best for me” are two things I struggle with daily.  And yet these two things hold so much comfort! God has everything planned out so specifically! Everything.happens.for.a.reason. So why do we try and fight that?

Only For Today

This is the daily decalogue of Pope John XXIII:

1. Only for today, I will seek to live the livelong day positively without wishing to solve the problems of my life all at once.

2. Only for today, I will take the greatest care of my appearance: I will dress modestly; I will not raise my voice; I will be courteous in my behaviour; I will not criticize anyone; I will not claim to improve or to discipline anyone except myself.

3. Only for today, I will be happy in the certainty that I was created to be happy, not only in the other world but also in this one.

4. Only for today, I will adapt to circumstances, without requiring all circumstances to be adapted to my own wishes.

5. Only for today, I will devote 10 minutes of my time to some good reading, remembering that just as food is necessary to the life of the body, so good reading is necessary to the life of the soul.

6. Only for today, I will do one good deed and not tell anyone about it.

7. Only for today, I will do at least one thing I do not like doing; and if my feelings are hurt, I will make sure that no one notices.

8. Only for today, I will make a plan for myself: I may not follow it to the letter, but I will make it. And I will be on guard against two evils: hastiness and indecision.

9. Only for today, I will firmly believe, despite appearances, that the good Providence of God cares for me as no one else who exists in this world.

10. Only for today, I will have no fears. In particular, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful and to believe in goodness. Indeed, for 12 hours I can certainly do what might cause me consternation were I to believe I had to do it all my life.
